Hey Bermuda, Why Did I Leave A Successful Promotions Business to pursue Organo Gold???

The Opportunity!
I had been looking for a new business venture for a few months as I had noticed for sometime the steady decline in the nightlife business in Bermuda for myself. With no real barriers for entry anybody and everybody can (and has the right) to get into the promotions business in Bermuda. With a steady decrease in the amount of people going out and the steady increase of people organizing parties it really makes organizing successful and profitable parties harder. Also, it was time for a change and try my hand at something different.

A few years ago, I remember a college classmate of mine had joined an organization called Organo Gold. The organization looked interesting but I didn't think too much of it at the time as I was focused on developing the nightlife in Bermuda. As my energy for nightlife began to fade I remembered that organization my college classmate had joined - Organo Gold. One thing I knew, I did not want to do was to go back and do a 9 - 5 job. I really hated that 9 - 5 grind and would do anything else but that. I went on the internet and searched on Google for the top earners in home based businesses. I did this as it would give me the opportunity to see the different home based businesses and how successful people were in those businesses.

The website, Business for Home came up http://www.businessforhome.org/2013/03/mlm-top-earners-ranks-update-march-2013/. The top earner was a man by the named of Holton Buggs. Holton Buggs earned $14,400,000 per year at Organo Gold!!! He was the top earner in all home based businesses not just Organo Gold. The #4 and #5 earners were also at Organo Gold earning $12,000,000 and $8,400,000 respectively. I was in shock as I could not believe people were making that much money in these home based businesses.

Immediately after seeing this I reached out to my old classmate who was also in Organo Gold. He confirmed it and said that Organo Gold was making alot of people wealthy.    I told him I wanted to learn more about Organo Gold so he referred me to the website.

The last thing I want is to be stuck with boxes of unsellable Organo Gold.

He assures me that it tastes good but I don't care. I have to taste it for myself. He sends me a few boxes of the Gourmet Black Coffee and the Latte. I try the Black Coffee and I like it, however, I am not really a coffee drinker. I decided to let a few other people try the coffee. I gave out about 20 samples and 18 of the 20 people that tried it loved it. 2 people were not too fussy on it. 18/20 is good enough for me as I realize that you cannot please everyone.

I am now really excited about this product and very interested in learning how I can join and learn about the compensation package. Popular Bad Girl, Natalie Nunn returns to Bermuda to host an exciting event at the Cosmopolitan Nightclub on Front Street. This is Natalie's fourth time coming to the island. The first time she was in Bermuda was for a Bad Girls Club party at Snorkel Park in July 2011. The second time was a few weeks later for the Cupmatch celebrations in Bermuda. The third time Natalie came back was just for a visit as she loved the island so much.

Natalie has been on promo tours for her new show Bad Girls All Star Battle. This show premieres on the Oxygen Channel on Monday, May 21st. Bermudians have been very interested in the Bad Girls franchise and it doesn't seem to be fading away.

We asked Natalie what can people expect when they come to this party. Natalie says, "im bringing the heat lol" This event promises to be an exciting one. The Bermuda Society of Arts is pleased to bring you an exciting and innovative 4 session course on iPad and iPhone photography, with internationally renowned photographer Theresa Airey.

This course will be held at the BSoA Gallery, top floor, City Hall on Saturdays June 1^st – 22^nd from 10am to 4pm.

Each week will be focused on a different element of photography on Apple’s mobile devices using different apps and functions. There will also be a field trip to Par La Ville / Queen Elizabeth Park to really demonstrate how to use your device in live situations.

As the course progresses Theresa will teach students how to use different iPhone / iPad cameras to take well composed photographs and to create strong and vibrant images using some of the many apps available. Theresa will also cover image quality and how to upload / download to and from PCs and Macs

Theresa Airey Biography

Theresa Airey, international photographer and author of several photographic books, has shown her work extensively, with separate exhibitions in eighteen of the fifty U.S. states.

Abroad, she has held major shows in Spain, Italy, Bermuda, the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

Her work has been featured at the Bermuda National Gallery in the Biennial for two years: 2007 and 2008.

Theresa’s work has been published in numerous Art and Photography Magazines. She was one of six international photographers featured in “The Yearbook” of 1999.

Her work is also featured in a book published by Delmar Learning entitled, “Photography in the 21st. Century”, of which she also has the cover image.

Theresa holds a MFA in Photography and Fine Art and has instructed Photography at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus, Towson State University and at the Maryland Institute, College of Art. She teaches private workshops in her studio in the states and hosts workshops each year around the globe.

She currently sits on the advisory board for Freestyle Photographic Suppliers.

She is best known for her skill in restoration, infrared photography and “crossing the boundaries” between traditional printmaking, painting, drawing, photography and digital art by using the computer as a tool to begin to integrate, orchestrate, and create new images.

The Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) was founded in 1952 out of a genuine regard for art and culture as well as the need to nurture the arts in Bermuda. I want to take this time to thank everyone who reads Hello World, My Name is Isis. Initially I saw this as a vehicle to vent as a means to express how I feel. Whether or not I got feed back from anyone it didn’t matter because it was therapy to be able to just get my feelings out.

Many people lie on a couch and spill their beans to a total stranger with a bunch of acquired letters behind their name but me, I prefer to just write and write and write till I feel better. And yes, it’s been working.

I have been getting lots of helpful feedback from the readers and it has been more beneficial then you all know. Yes, sometimes it hurts to hear the truth but I take it all in and make my decisions based on you alls feedback and my intuition. So once again, let me say thank you to you all and encourage you to continue to support the blog. As long as you all support, I will continue to write about my countless drama, be it for your entertainment purposes or other wise.

Now that I got that out of the way, a brief update on all of my situations. Jorge continues to stalk me. I put a block on him from facebook but he has my number, don’t know how he got it but I’m thinking we may have exchanged numbers in a drunken stupor, because I have his number too. I’m not too phased by it because he is far away and I highly doubt he’s coming to Bermuda. He ain’t ballin like that. If that time comes, I will cross that bridge the best way I know how.

Dwayne still tries, sends me flowers, emails, voice messages telling me he’s not giving up. He even showed up at my house once or twice but I give him the cold shoulder so his visits have been fruitless. It still hurts and I get in situations where I really want to give in to him, but I have to be strong and I am strong so basically, he is just wasting his time.

Super Bowl, there’s really nothing going on there. He calls me every now and then and tells me the same story. But really I think he is losing interest or bored because I’m not giving him no play. If he really wanted me, he would be fighting as hard as Dwayne but he’s not and that’s actually a good thing.

One less person to worry about.

The most interesting thing happened to me. My ace girl has been telling me about this dude who is geeked to meet me. She was like: “Isis, he really wants to meet you. He’s been reading your blogs and begging me to set you and him up.”

I must admit on one hand I am flattered. But on the other hand….

WHAT THE F***K?!?

I mean, dude reads my stories, he sees the drama I go through on almost a daily basis, and he still wants to holla? Either he has a very sympathetic heart and thinks he is my Prince Charming that can save me from my misery, or he thinks I’m pathetic and easy and has every intention of adding to my stories.

You know, easy p*ssy!!

Either way, Mr. C.H. (No, I won’t put you on blast and post your name) I got you checked and I checked out your facebook page. If you’re genuine about who you are and you really wanna get to know the real Isis, then you know how to contact me. Leave a comment below or email me and we can go from there.

I must warn you though; I have decided to live my life out loud so if you do contact me, remember my readers and my friends will know all about it. The only thing I will promise you is that I will not post your real name but that’s the only form of anonymity I can offer you. If you’re up to the challenge, I look forward to your contact.

04/24/2013 - Hello My Name is Isis - I NEEDED THAT, BUT AT WHAT COST

So I just got back in from my vacation in Puerto Rico (kinda needed it). Yup that’s right, I traveled all the way down south to clear my mind but of course drama still followed me. Sigh.

Starting from the beginning: Ok, so after my fiasco with Dwayne and Super Bowl and all my other failed attempts to find a decent man, I decided to go and visit a friend of mine whom I met in college, Conchita, who has relocated back to her homeland of San Juan.

She had always wanted me to come and visit and I thought now is a better time than ever. So I booked a flight, kind a last minute thing. Just took my last paycheck, bought the ticket then hopped on a plane and there I was in a sunny Spanish speaking country trying to get my life back in order.

The trip was just what the doctor ordered…I loved visiting my college besty and couldn’t wait to hit the beach and all of the hot spots.

So on day two, Conchita takes me to this club called Ventura de Noche (Night Window) and I spot the finest dude I’ve seen in a while. I’m not one to approach a dude first but I had no problem in making myself approachable. So I’m standing at the bar hoping to make eye contact with Mr. Caliente.

He sees me but doesn’t approach, me so I think to myself: “What the hell Isis, go for it…what happens in PR stays in PR!!”
So I go up to him and ask him to dance. Immediately, he agrees takes me on the dance floor and we start to dance a sexy salsa number.

Well we danced for about three or four songs. I found out throughout the night Mr. Caliente’s name was Jorge and he was masters’ degree student who went to school in Miami but was home for a family wedding. He was very attractive, your typical Puerto Rican Papi with the accommodating fair skin and dark hair (kinda like Mario Lopez…complete with dimples and muscles) I liked Jorje and thought to myself: “This is going to be a great vacation!”

Fast forward to day three, Jorge and I hooked up and went on a few dates, I was having a ball. He was teaching me Spanish and Latin culture while I was soaking it all up and enjoying the experience. Dwayne and Superbowl were becoming distant memories and I was just focusing on my new and “temporary” Latin eye candy who was taking up all my time.

This went on for a few days until it all went belly up, (go figure). We’re sitting at a Japanese Restaurant near the beach having great conversation and lots of Margaritas. When Jorge asked me if I was ready to go dancing with him again tonight, I politely turned him down, mainly because, since I had been in PR I hadn’t spent any real quality time with my friend who I hadn’t seen in almost six years and Conchita had previously arranged a double date with her boyfriend, his homeboy and me.

Well when Jorge caught wind of that he acted like a jealous lover and started accusing me of toying with his feelings before he called me out my name. “Isis you’re acting like una verdedera puta (a real bitch)”

“Huh? Why TF would you call me out my name Jorge?? We are not in a relationship. I just met you.” I was soo offended.

He shouted: “You can’t deny the chemistry we have here. I thought you were different but you’re just like the American women I date in college. More and more I’m beginning to think I need to just stick to my own.”

“Yo dude, you’re tripping. I just met you and this is waay too much for me to deal with at this point. I think we’re done. It was a nice ride. Thank you for showing me around your beautiful island but this is where I get off.” I’m learning to detect crazy real fast. And thank God my detection skills are bilingual.

I got up, dropped a few dollars to pay for my meal then left the restaurant and headed home. Well moments after I got to the house this fool is pulling into the driveway behind me talking about: “Isis, we still have things to discuss.” I was like: “What is up with this dude? He is loco en la cabeza!!”

I told him to please leave my house and don’t call me anymore. Well this dude then proceeded to grab me and shove me up against the wall claiming how much he cares about me and how we had so much of a connection and why am I just throwing him away like the pass few days meant nothing. He told me that he’s never met a girl like me and that he doesn’t want to just throw that away. Dude then begged me not to go out with another guy and please spend the remainder of my time in PR with him.

Now, you all may think I’m crazy for agreeing to his forced proposal but let me explain my motive before you judge.

Jorge seems certifiably crazy!! So I agreed to his proposal to temporarily get him off my case. I was in a strange country with no clue on how the culture or the law works. So I said: “Oh Jorge, I care about you too and I was unaware that you felt the same way. I want to spend the rest of my time on the island getting to know you better and who knows where it may lead.”

Once Jorge thought I was convincing enough he passionately kissed me then said he would pick me up tonight around 7:30pm. I agreed then went into the house. That night, Conchita and I changed our original dating place and chose somewhere where Jorge wouldn’t find us. We had a blast that night and thankfully it was my last night in PR. I left the island without giving Crazy Jorge my contact details and chalked it all up to be a crazy distant memory…until just now that is.
I as checking my facebook messages and noticed a friends request and an inbox message from Jorje Guerra.

Inbox message: “Isis, why did you do that to me??? Why did you lie to me??? You F*cking lying bitch!!! I’m coming to Bermuda to find you. WE WILL BE TOGETHER!!”

I’m Scared!!

Earlier this evening I was invited by my cousin to join a new viral app that is about to launch. I had to sign up to get more information about the viral app and only have the chance to share this with 5 other people.

Since it was free, I signed up for it. What can I lose by signing up? The basic premise for this app is that when something new and exciting comes out we are quick to share it with our friends. Eg. Job sent me on a trip to our Bahamas office, so like any good salsero my first thought was, “Where do I go to find the salsa scene in Nassau?” Google to the rescue! And would you look at that?!? The day I arrive, in the very hotel I’ll be staying in, Bahamas Salsa Social Network is holding their weekly social…

Check in went like this:
Me: “Afternoon, I’m checking in.”
Receptionist: “Blah blah blah.”
Me: (Nodding to the Prince Royce that’s playing in the background)
Receptionist: “That’s great, we can also sign you up for blah blah blah…”
Me: (How long does it take to check in to a room?!? Can’t she hear the music playing?!?)
Receptionist: “Here’s your key, the elevators are just around the corner here.”
Me: “Kthnxbye!”

Ran to my room, threw my luggage in the door and ran back down to the lounge.

Sure, I could have gone all touristy and done my sightseeing (first visit to Nassau), or taken a moment to explore the hotel (it was a Hilton, after all), or even, I don’t know, stopped to eat a decent meal. But the music was playing. Which meant that people were dancing. Which meant that I had to dance, too!

And dance and dance and dance…

That was such a good night. Met the lady that organized the BSSN group, Indira and her husband, and I’ve been following them online ever since. (In fact, they were invited guests when the World Dance Championships were hosted here a couple of years ago.) Was asked to show a couple bachata turns to some of the students (nothing serious, just a “hey, can you show us how that’s done?”).

The parallels between their salsa scene and ours were obvious: pushing people over the mental hump “they dance with the lights on”, lots of support from foreign workers, less support from locals… And also struggling to find a venue that supports their efforts. Salseros tend not to be big drinkers - which should not be surprising, given the number of spins we have to do per night - but the venues that can house our events and provide a good dance floor, beverages, restrooms tend to be driven by the bar’s nightly business. It’s a quandary, alright, and it’ll take some creative thinking to overcome.

But I still don’t know how I was signed up for that lifetime membership thing at the HIlton…

What a day it has been!!!

Ever since Ceaser tweeted "😳Wow somebody is doing some bullshit,I am not going to be at this party", my world has been turned upside down.

Let's start from the beginning:
On Tuesday, March 19th, I reached out to Ceaser's "booking agent" to check his availability for a Tattoo Party that I wanted to do on the last Saturday in April. I got a reply from the agent that he would be available and would love to host a party in Bermuda. He advised me of his fee and rider which was reasonable so I was down to make this happen.

In order to secure the booking, you typically have to pay a 50% deposit. I asked the agent to hold the booking for me and I will pay the deposit on the following Tuesday, March 26th. He initially said that was fine but about 2 hours later sent me an email telling me that someone in Miami wanted to book him on that same date so he could not hold the booking. I called the agent and questioned why would you even want to consider Miami over Bermuda.......to me there is no comparison. You can always go to Miami, but how often would you get the chance to host a party in Bermuda. He sold me on the story that at this time they are trying to capitalize off the show and that they are interested in the money. LOL I couldn't really argue with that logic so cool.

On Friday, March 22nd, I sent the 50% deposit via Western Union and signed the contract. Everything was running smoothly so far. Later on that day, the agent reached out to me and asked if I wanted Teddy Rux to come to Bermuda along with Ceaser. He said all I had to do was pay for the plane ticket, so I was like that can work let's do it. (That would have been a surprise for you guys because I wasn't going to advertise that at all!)

Few days pass and I check Ceaser's twitter page to see if he had mentioned his upcoming trip to Bermuda. Nothing yet (sigh). However, what I thought was strange was that his email for bookings had changed. I didn't think too much about it......but it did catch my attention.

Here is when things really got shaky. I had asked the agent if he could get Ceaser to do a video drop. I wanted him to let Bermuda know that he was coming to the island and that he couldn't wait to party with us. The agent told me that due to his contract with VH1, he would be unable to do a video drop for free and that it would cost an extra $250.00. This was absolutely ridiculous......I had never heard of such and certainly had no intention of paying $250.00 for a video drop.

Fast forward to last Friday, the agent told me to call him asap. I call the agent and he explains to me that Ceaser got caught up in some bullshit and that he may be unable to make the trip to Bermuda. WTF!!!!! He said in the meantime, we still had Teddy Rux coming and that he would try to get another Black Ink member to come. So I had asked if Dutchess was available and he said no she was confirmed for somewhere else. He said Sassy was available so I was like cool that probably could work. I hit up a few people that I knew and told them the scenario and they said yes that should be fine.

Last night, Ceaser must have found out about the party and clearly had no clue about it so he tweeted "😳Wow somebody is doing some bullshit,I am not going to be at this party". Once that tweet was sent out, the floodgates opened. I am getting hit up by everyone asking what's going on with Ceaser. I can't really say much because I don't know what the hell is going on. So I try to reach out to Ceaser on Twitter and ask him to call me. He responded by giving me his email address and telling me to send my number. So I did that right away and was hoping that he would hit me right back. He didn't so I am getting more anxious by the minute.

I call up another agent that I have used before that I know is legit and that has booked Ceaser for another event. She hits me up and says that she would assist. She gets me on the line with her partner and they tell me that the agent that I was dealing with was not the agent that she dealt with when she booked Ceaser for one of her clients. I explained to her that the agent seemed legitimate as his email address was initially on Ceaser's twitter page as his agent. He also had pictures with Ceaser and pictures with a bunch of celebrities. She said that she would investigate some more and get back to me.

Its morning and I still had not heard from Ceaser. I went on Twitter and reached out again. I decided that it was now time to call the agent I was dealing with and find out what's going on. He answered the phone and I asked him what his business relationship with Ceaser is right now. He advised that he no longer has a relationship with Ceaser and that Ceaser was being manipulated by his current agent. I asked him did Ceaser know that he was booked for Bermuda on April 27th and that a deposit was paid. He said Ceaser did know that he was booked for a party in Bermuda. I said Ceaser is on twitter tweeting he has no clue about any party in Bermuda. He tells me that Ceaser does not control his facebook or twitter page and that his new agent controls that. He said that the new agent and he was originally supposed to work together to do bookings for Ceaser and Dutchess. However, it was something about this new agent that didn't sit well with him. Because of this, the new agent did not like him and convinced Dutchess and Ceaser to leave him alone. (The new agent was a friend of Dutchess for years before they became reality stars). He apologized for not telling me this sooner but advised that Teddy Rux was still coming and that he had a comedy show that he would book for me. He "represents" a few comedians that are popular. There is nothing more that I could do at this time so I left it at that.

Evening is here and finally I was able to get ahold of Ceaser's new agent. I explained to him the situation from my stand point and told him I needed some clarity from him. He explained that originally he was supposed to work with my agent but something did not sit right with him. So he did a background check on this agent and found things that he did not like. He explained that to Ceaser and Dutchess and they agreed not to do business with him. He advised that they never knew about the trip to Bermuda and advised that Ceaser does not even have a passport. However, he understood my frustration and said that basically I got ripped off and that the deposit I sent is gone.

The new agent was real cool and said that he can try to get Ceaser and Dutchess to Bermuda in June. By then, Ceaser should have a passport. He also let me speak to both Ceaser and Dutchess as they were with him at the time. They were both apologetic that I had to go through this and promised that they will "turn it up" when they did come to Bermuda. I thanked them and told them I look forward to seeing them in June.

So where does this leave us regarding the party on April 27th.......As of right now, there will be no celebrity guest attending this party. However, the show must go on and it will be a great event. At the end of the day, it’s about the #GetINKED Tattoo Photo Challenge. We had 62 great contestants that displayed their tattoos. What I like most about the challenge was that it was well represented. There were tattoos from Girls, Guys, White, Black, Older, Younger - everyone from Bermuda was represented. It just shows that we have more in common than we think. It also shows how far tattoos have come. Before, it was only sailors and bikers that had tattoos but now everyone and their grandma have tattoos. So hopefully you will still embrace the challenge and the event......and look out for Ceaser and Dutchess in June (hopefully :) )

The weather has been really nice lately so a few days ago I decided to go to Albouy’s Point, to sit off and have my lunch.

I wanted to take sometime, sit back and reflect on my situation. On Dwayne, Chanel, the proposal, Superbowl the whole nine.

I found myself a nice sunny spot over looking Harbour Road and was just enjoying my fish dinner.

I was content. My mind started wondering: “Isis Oshun Simmons, in all your beauty…I found the woman of my dreams in you and I promise I will never hurt you again. I will spend the rest of my life making you happy. Will you please do me the honor of being my wife and spending the rest of your life with me?”

That question kept resonating in my mind over and over. Then what followed were the how abouts? and the whys? and what ifs?

As I was deep in thought in my own world…in Isis world…I experienced the most obnoxious interruption ever.

“Hey sexy! Lunch looks good can I sit next to you?”

Hell it’s a public bench I can’t stop him, though I wish I could.

This dude that the initiative to sit next to me, and decides to interrupt my peaceful lunch with shenanigans. I mean he wasn’t bad looking. He apparently works Marine & Ports (he had on a uniform) so I thought to myself: “Hell, girl let the man entertain you…how bad could it be?”

I politely smiled then turned my head back to my lunch container.

“Um sayin, ya dis sexy and ya man lets you sit off alone like this? He don’t know there’s vultures out here that would swoop in snatch you?”

I looked at him: “excuse me? First off, when you meet a lady you should politely introduce yourself before you ask crazy questions.”

“I’m sorry, um Lavar and whats ya name sexy?”

OH LORD Here we go again.!!!

“Keisha, my name is Keisha,” I lied.

“So Keisha, you never answered my question, why ya man lets you sit off here all by yourself?”

“Look here Lavar, first off, my MAN doesn’t “let me” do anything. I do what I want, second, I am on lunch so can I please eat in peace?” I started to get annoyed.

“Oh so ya saying you do have a man…I knew a fine thing like you wouldn’t be single, ya lunch looks good too. Fish is my favorite. But I aint been paid yet so I had to settle for a ham sandwich.” He said.

I’m just so irritated by men lately and I don’t have time for this dude or his wack conversation. “Whether I have a man or not is really none of your business neither relevant to why you or I are here eating fish or ham sandwiches. I think I’m done and thanks for ruining my lunch, as a matter of fact (handing him my food) here you eat it if it’ll make you happy.”

I then got up and walked away.

I don’t know if I’m just irritated at the way things have been going with men lately, or I was just being a snappy bitch, but I felt bad because of what I said to Lavar. I turned around to apologize and notice this dude was just smiling and digging into my half eaten plate like it was Easter Dinner.

This year event took place at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles on February 24, 2013 between world renowned movie celebrities and with amid celebrations for the films of 2012. The 85^th Oscars televised in more than 100 countries. Seth MacFarlane hosted this great event for the first time.

The Oscars started as Academy Awards in 1929 at Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood, still today it is the most prestigious award in World cinema. This Life of Pi bagged total four awards including Best Director, cinematography, original score and visual effects. Argo stood as the best film, it even snatched two more other awards best screenplay and film editing. Ang Lee’s great movie Life of Pi stood as the biggest film with four awards from 11 nominations. Lincoln which was expected to get more awards, only bagged two awards from 12 nominations best actor and production design. Director Ben Affleck awarded for best film for his Iran rescue thriller Argo. Best Actor was grabbed by Daniel Day-Lewis for his great performance in Lincoln. This award was presented last year’s best actress Meryl Streep. Best actress award grabbed by Jennifer Lawrence for her awesome performance as Tiffany, a young widow in Silver Linings Playbook. Yesterday I was walking along Front Street when I was stopped by a middle aged couple from Boston. This was the couple's first time in Bermuda and they loved the friendliness and beauty of the island. They were telling me that they wanted to go out to dinner later on in the evening and asked for my recommendations. They said that they had checked out Trip Advisor for people's opinions on the different restaurants in Bermuda, but they also wanted to get a Bermudian opinion. I gave them my favorite 3 restaurants. I am not sure if they went or not but I hope where ever they went that they enjoyed the experience.

If you was asked by a tourist what is your favorite 3 restaurants in Bermuda, which restaurants would you choose and why? The restaurant can be anywhere on the island.

I’m yet to answer Dwayne’s question. If fact, I’m not sure if it even warrants an answer at this point. I haven’t spoken to him since he proposed but that doesn’t stop him from showing up to my house and job almost every day.

I’ve let my cousin Zerazsa stay with me for a little while and it all works out because she creates a buffer and is a great distraction from me giving into Dwayne.

When he shows up at my house she tells him I’m not home and chases him away.

I mean at the end of the day, my feelings for him were very real. If he had asked me that same question before the Mint Condition fiasco, I probably would’ve not even bashed and eye lash, moved in with him and would be planning my fairytale wedding as we speak. But I have to wonder if he is genuine or if he’s trying to run game.

I listened to what you all have to say in the comment section, in the emails and from those of you who know me in person. You all are just reading the blog which is just a small account of what is really happening. You have to actually be in my shoes to see the real story. It’s more intense then I can explain.

This man really presented himself as “The One” I really believed him. I mean it hurts to know I could possibly be getting played like a fiddle, if this is all a joke a game to him. I really want to believe that what we had was real. I want to believe that I just caught him in a bad predicament.

I mean what if he is telling the truth? I’ve considered that as well. I can truly say I loved him. I know you all will be saying: “Isis, don’t be stupid, you’ve only known him for three months.” But none of you have ever fallen in love quickly? None of you have ever experienced love at first sight? I mean if you spend enough time with a person it can happen very quickly and when you least expect it. How long does it really take to fall in love with someone? Is there a required unwritten time limit? Please tell me because I really don’t know.

I’m 35 years old and most of us know within the first few hours of meeting someone if that person is a keeper. I mean look at Ricky Lake…she married her husband after only knowing him for one week.

I can’t say if Dwayne is lying or not…I hope not but the only person I can speak for is Isis.

03/28/2013 - Sad News: Bermuda Restaurant Closing Down

I was talking with a good friend of mine who lives on Court St and I had asked him how the businesses were making out on that street. I had asked him about a few businesses where he said some were struggling but others such as Fish Hut were still doing great because Fish Hut has such a loyal following and they have great food.

So it was shocking to me when I heard on the radio talk show yesterday that Fish Hut, one of the best Bermuda restaurants for fish, was closing down. Of course, people calling in were speculating on the demise of Fish Hut - Bad Economy, Location, etc. However, the reason that it is closing down is because the owner sold the building. For some people, this was no shock at all since the owner has been trying to sell the building for some time.

I am hoping that Fish Hut will be able to find another location that works for them. It would be really sad to see another Bermuda restaurant close its doors......especially a successful one. An idea I had was if Fish Hut could partner up with some of these stand alone nightclubs that have space for a kitchen like Shine's Nightclub. If anyone has any ideas on any locations where Fish Hut can operate, please let us know here in the comments section.

“Our plan was to wed last September, but over the summer I noticed a lot of stuff that made me change my mind. She has some serious psycho tendencies that I never before seen a sane person display. The long and short of it is that when you saw me introduce her as my girlfriend I was actually trying to quell the situation.” This was the cock and bull story Dwayne was trying to get me to believe when he cornered me outside my house the other day.

“What the eff you mean quell the situation Dwayne? I really don’t have time for this bullsh*t please leave my house!”

“Baby, I’m serious! I contacted Chanel a few weeks ago to make a deal with her that I would buy her out, cash, concerning our house. I’ve invested a lot of money into the house and I really don’t want to give it up.

“To be honest with you, my intention was to settle business with Chanel then once I was free and clear, I was going to ask you to move in with me.”

“What?!?!” My heart suddenly sunk

As I sat on an outside lawn chair facing the South Shore, I gave him the side eye and he continued: “She told me that I was making a big mistake by leaving her and that she has plans to make me happy for the rest of our lives.

I sighed loudly and thought: “Do I really have to sit her and subject myself to this bullsh*t?)

“She then told me she would not let me buy her out until I gave the relationship a fair shot. I told her there is nothing left between her and I and that I cannot trust her.

“Of course she was not taking no for an answer and was trying to persistently say she is not letting go. Chanel tried to convince me that there was too much outside influence in our relationship, which caused it to go haywire, and then propositioned me.

“Chanel told me that if I move in with her for a month and gave our relationship a real chance she was adamant that our wedding would be back on. She said we would have to give each other 100% and work through every situation together without interference.

Why am I sitting here listening to this? I started to get increasingly irritated.

“I told her hell no! She told me to just try it, and if I have a small inkling of love for her I would do it. Now Isis, I am not going to lie, I still do love her. I would never wish any harm on her but as far as being in love with her, there is only one person who I want and that is you Ms. Simmons. I WANT YOU IN MY LIFE!

I yelled at him: “Why are you telling me this Dwayne? You obviously took her up on her offer, as evidenced by what I experienced at the hotel!!!”

“That’s the thing Isis,” He said: “The deal is if I stay with her for a month and things don’t work out, she’ll let me peacefully buy her out without any drama. And Isis, this girl is full of DRAMA!!”

“I didn’t say anything to you, which was wrong, because I didn’t think you would understand and I didn’t want to lose you. So like a coward, I hid it from you hoping I could get through the month without you knowing.

“My intention was to get through this then ask you to move in and marry me.”

“I understand your anger and I take full responsibility if you never speak to me again. But baby please believe me I love you! And I will fight for you til you’re back in my life.”

Staring out at the rolling waves, contemplating slapping the sh*t outta this man, it was at that very moment Dwayne shocked the shingles out of me: “Isis Oshun Simmons, in all your beauty…I found the woman of my dreams in you and I promise I will never hurt you again. I will spend the rest of my life making you happy. Will you please do me the honor of being my wife and spending the rest of your life with me?”

I immediately whipped my head around in surprise, and found Dwayne laying face down in front of me in submission with tears pouring out of his eyes.

I froze as I didn’t even know how to respond.

Ok so it's been a week since my incident at South P and I haven't accepted any calls from Dwayne.
He has been calling me consistently since last Saturday night and leaving pathetic voice mails begging me to meet up with him to hear him out.

He came to my job yesterday and thank God I was able to spot him before he spotted me and ditch him before he was able to corner me. I'm still very hurt and extremely disappointed in him.

Despite my anger, hurt and frustration, what keeps running through my mind is the big question of why????
I mean he whispered in my ear that it’s not what I think and to trust him, but what could he possibly say that could reassure me that he wants me or change my mind that Chanel is not his girlfriend?
I mean what could possibly be the big secret? Part of me, the curious side, wants to hear him out and get the scoop. But the pride in me is hurt and completely humiliated. I'm too proud to take him back and I feel like that if I give in, I'll be a total ass.

I mean for one, he lied to me telling me that he had to take an emergency business trip; he knew I really wanted to go Mint Condition so there was a strong possibility I would STILL go without him. I mean, does he really think that much of himself that I wouldn't go because he didn't take me? Why take that risk? This is Bermuda, word travels fast, why would he risk having two public girlfriends in this tiny little island? How long did he think that would last?

I mean, I guess maybe because I don't go out much he thought he was safe. But the only reason I don't go out much is because I haven't had a date in donkeys years and my ace girls are all married and booed up, forcing me to stay home.
I mean what is it really about this girl that he would publicly humiliate me and introduce me as his friend? I mean what if I got ghetto and started fighting right there in front of everyone?
I mean there are so many unanswered questions, what should I do???

I REALLY NEED YOU GUY’S HELP WITH THIS ONE!!

Then there's Mr. Super Bowl, he's trying to convince me that he is not with his ex and that she followed him to the Super Bowl party hoping to reunite. He told me shortly after they got back together they broke up again. He told me it was a big mistake and he should have stayed with me.

"You are the only one I love and I was stupid to leave you but the truth is, I fell in love with you and I got scared and ran" he told me. "I ran back to my ex because it was familiar but soon after realized you were the only one for me"

REALLY??? O_O

Mr. S confessed he tried forever to build up the courage to beg for me back but realized he effed up and figured a catch like me would have been long scooped up by another man. He said rather than look like a total ass, he cut his loses and let it go.
Mr. S said that when he saw me walk into the Superbowl party he knew it was for a reason and he wasn't going to let the moment pass him by.
He said now that he had me back into his arms, now that he was reminded of how much of a gem I was, he was not going to let me go again, if it kills him.

Do I believe him? I'm not sure.

I am very attracted to him and he has a lot of qualities I want in a man. But I was so angry, hurt and bitter when he dumped me, I don't know if I ever recovered.
So now I have two men fighting for my attention,

(something that has NEVER happened to me before and rarely happens to people like me)

and I don't know which one to trust or if I should just leave them both alone.
The problem is with leaving them both alone, is just that, I'll go back to being alone.
And that is a position that definitely does not feel good.

I usually try to do my best to remain a lady at all times. I mean, I am tried and tested on a daily basis (that’s just how my cookie crumbles), so to have some one surprise me with bad news just comes with my territory. I mean, I can take a lot and keep on ticking but there are those rare occasions when someone will push my buttons to the point of no return.

This just happens to be one of those times.

So when Dwayne had the audacity to introduce this bitc... I’m sorry, this woman as his girlfriend, I think I temporarily took a short hiatus from the here and now. I mean, I froze in confusion at first. I swear the Earth cracked its surface and I temporarily lost my hearing or a bunch of clowns stood in front of me performing a circus act or I saw Superman fly across my face…I don’t know what it was but all I know is that I was somewhere else for a few seconds.

“Your friend Isis? Your girlfriend Chanel?!!” I started to get loud as I finally came to.

“What the f*ck are you talking about Dwayne? And what are you doing here? AND what happened to the “emergency business trip” you were supposed to take.” By this time I was loud and ghetto enough for passers by to begin to stare.

“Dwayne what is going on here?” Chanel chimed in.

Dwayne gripped me by the arm, telling me to calm down and dragged me out of ear shot of the traveling crowd.

“Baby, I’ll explain it all to you later. It’s not what you think, please just go home and wait for me there. If you love me, trust me.” Dwayne tried to whisper in my ear without Chanel hearing.

“Have you lost your mind? What the F*ck can you explain to me over what my eyes see right now? It’s not what I think? What the f*ck do you think I think Dwayne?! I think you’ve been lying to me! I think you’ve been deceiving me! I think you’ve been cheating on me! I think I’m side chick, so maybe you haven’t been cheating on me you’ve been cheating on her! That’s what I think. But what I know is that your black ass better never even think about contacting me ever a day in your life.”

Dwayne tried to maintain his composure as he pleaded for me to just trust him and wait for him to come to my house that night to explain.

I was so hurt and confused. I definitely wanted to know what the hell he could possibly have to say after all of that. But my pride got the best of me and I slapped him dead in his face before I called over to Chanel telling her: “His cheating ass is all yours now” and walked away.

Teary eyed and completely embarrassed I headed over to the parking lot up on the tennis courts, on my way Mr. Superbowl spotted me and pulled up beside me. (He had missed the whole showdown).

He stopped the car and jumped out and began consoling me with a hug. He had no clue what had just happened but saw I needed him right now and provided such.

I just sat in his car and cried and cried and cried. Mr. S was about to take me to my car but detoured to Horseshoe Bay.

By the time we got to the parking lot I was hot mess. I had cried my eyes red and my speech was incoherent.

After Mr. S figured out my distraught state had nothing to do with him or his actions, he did not pressure me to find out what had happened as he realized I was not ready to talk about it.

He simply provided a shoulder for me to cry on and rubbed my back and head in consolation.

We stayed like that for nearly two hours until I was calm. Whether it was a good idea or not, I really needed to be validated that night and with soft passionate kisses, Mr. S provided such.

I don’t recall at what moment I agreed but I ended up at Mr. S house and spend the night being validated.

No, it didn’t soothe or solve my problems but for that one night I forgot about Dwayne Moore and his so treasured girlfriend Chanel. For that one night I forgot about all the lies I willingly believed. I forgot about Mr. Superbowl and his “not-so-ex girlfriend” It was all about me and making me feel good, even if was only temporary.

The next morning Mr. S. drove me back to Southampton Princess to get my car and suddenly as we drove on the property, all the memories of what transpired the night before flooded my memory bank.

“Isis, I meant what I said; I’m going to do whatever it takes to get you back.” Mr. S claimed.

“I don’t have time for this right now. I want to thank you for everything last night, including being there for me when I really needed you. But the reality of the situation is, I can not trust you. I don’t know what the deal is with you and your “ex”. You’ve lied to me before so I don’t know what to believe. I’m not mad about what happened between us last night but at this point, that cannot continue.” I started to feel guilty.

“Listen, It’s not that I’m not attracted to you, we both know there is mad mutual attraction between us but I just need sometime to think and sort out my jumbled mind right now.”

Mr. S tried to reason with me but my mind was made up. He simply said: “Give me time and you will see.”

With that I got in my car and drove away….just then, my phone began to ring. I looked down at the callerID and it said call from Dwayne Moore.

Blog 13 WTF!!!

When I started my blog I opened by telling you that my life is effing pathetic. Well guys…ain’t nothing changed.

Yes there are moments of happiness and normalcy like my relationship with Dwayne, for example, but they are always short lived. Kinda sorta like God feels sorry for me and throws me a bone. But at the end of the day, he always seems to snatch it back.

Maybe I was a really bad person in my former life and I’m paying for it now; maybe my expectations on love and life are too high and I have to lower them; maybe I’m not cut out to be in a successful relationship; maybe I’m just supposed to be a spinster living in a house with a bunch of cats or maybe I should join a convent. Whatever the reason is that I fail at relationships, I end up heartbroken every time.

So Mint Condition was last weekend…(whoop-de-freakin-do O_o). I know you’re thinking: “I thought this girl was geeked to go to the concert! What happened?”

Pay attention, I’ll tell you.

So last Friday, I called Dwayne to “wish him well on his trip”. I say it in quotes because after he anonymously sent me the flowers and the Mint Condition ticket, I had to continue playing the game of him ‘traveling for the weekend’.

When I called him, Friday morning he was already at the airport. I was a little upset because I wanted to see him before he left the Island. But I must have mistaken his flight time. Anyways, I wished him well and told him ‘I can’t wait till he gets back’. All the while I figured he was at home or somewhere out and about getting prepared to surprise me tomorrow night on our fabulous date.

When I go to work, there was another bouquet of Wild Orchid which read: “Can’t wait to share the evening with you tomorrow night. Wear something sexy and meet me at the venue. Seat yourself and I’ll be along soon after.”

I started to get goose bumps and was ready to jump Dwayne’s bones as soon as the concert was over and show him how much I really care about him and appreciate all the effort he put into making this event special for me….oooh I was soo nervous and excited all at the same time.

So Saturday comes and I’m looking sexy as hell in my very revealing black lace mini dress. I arrive at Southampton Princess alone and take my seat, ensuring I save a spot for my lover. The concert hadn’t started yet and the lights were still high so I did what I do best and began to observe all the couples entering.

I usually feel awkward attending events solo but since Dwayne was on his way I was on cloud nine.

Eventually the lights dimed and just as the MC was about introduce, I felt arms around my shoulders and a kiss on my cheek. Excitedly I turned around to greet my man when I noticed it was NOT MY MAN AT ALL but Mr. Superbowl himself.

“Oh My God, what are you doing, get off me!!” I yelled as I tried to push him away. “If my man sees you, he’s gonna flip.”

He shot back: “He won’t see you because I’m the one that sent you the ticket.

“I told you, I love you and I’m going to do whatever it takes to get you back. I’m trying to show you I’m a changed man.”

Well I didn’t know how to respond to that. I mean I was happy to be at the concert, I was excited that someone thought me special enough to go through all this trouble to make me happy but I was vexed that I was deceived and I was hurt that it wasn’t Dwayne who was sitting next me.

Long story short, I decided to take the evening for what it was and tried to enjoy the show and a least have a civil conversation with Mr. Superbowl.

He consistently tried to hold my hand or embrace me during romantic intervals but his advances were thwarted by my blocks and shoves demanding he keep his hands to himself.

Despite, the drama, I did enjoy the concert.

On the way out of the hotel, I happened to glance over to my far right and low and freakin behold I see Mr. “I Had To Go On An Emergency Trip” Dwayne’s ass walking hand in hand with some woman.

Well at first, I thought I was seeing things. But after a closer look and as I got closer to my target, I noticed it was sure as hell was him.

I called out to him and he turned and looked then immediately turned his head back as if he didn’t know I was. “Dwayne Sinclair Moore!!” I got a little louder. The woman who he was with tapped and pointed him in my direction.

At this time I was in reachable distance of him. Mr. Superbowl had gone ahead of me to go and get his car to take me to mine and instructed I wait at the hotel entrance.

“He Isis, nice to see you,” Dwayne faked. “What the hell, I said. What are you doing here? What are you doing on the Island? Who is this?”

Dwayne then said in a very nonchalant tone: “Chanel this is my friend Isis, Isis this is my girlfriend Chanel.”

I’M DONE!!!

I AM GEEKED!! I’m not sure how he got the hint but I’m going to Mint Condition!!!

My biggest dilemma is trying to figure out what to wear.

Ok let me back up a bit. So Valentines came and went (btw I hope you all had a great one).

Dwayne bought me a dozen roses, some chocolates and a teddy bear…how cute.

We went out to eat at Ascots and it was delicious. I bought him some chocolates and some cologne, he loved it. And it was just enough for our first valentines.

The night was perfect.

So after dinner we took a romantic stroll through town, just window shopping.

It was cool; I loved the vibe that was going on. I truly appreciated everything he did for me that night but you all know deep down inside I really just wanted to go to the concert.

So the night ended romantically, after we got in from dinner, Dwayne kissed me at the door and headed home.

I went to bed that night feeling a bit ambivalent because I was happy for the gifts but a little upset he didn’t mention anything about the Mint Condition concert.

So yesterday, while at work I got a flower delivery…the card simply said: “I love the woman you have become. You’re always on my mind and this weekend I would be glad to have you in my company.”

And tucked behind the card was a ticket to MINT CONDITION!!! With another note behind that saying: “Instructions to follow”

The first thing I did was call Dwayne and screamed: “Ahhh Thank you Baby!!”

He answered: “You’re welcome but for what?”

I was like: “Oh so you’re gonna go there…ok I’ll play along.”

Dwayne sounded a bit thrown off and like I was disturbing him. So I ended the conversation playing his game along with him as if he didn’t know what I was talking about and simply said: “OK well bye Baby, and I can’t wait till this weekend!!”

Dwayne shot me down real quick and said: “Oh Baby, I forgot to tell you I have an emergency business trip this weekend so I will be overseas…that’s the only reason I didn’t get us tickets to the concert you were hinting so conspicuously about.”

Now I was confused, but simply took it as him playing the role.

“OHHHHH KAAAY wink wink…I’ll see you tonight.”

Work commitments forced us to end our convo prematurely, so I hung up the phone and got back to work.

But there were no flies on me for the rest of the day…I was as happy as a pig in sh*t.

So as my hunny obviously wants to make this weekend a night to remember, with all the surprises and stuff, I have to make sure I am looking fly.

So all this week I’ve been trying to find something sexy to wear. I’ve in and out of the stores this week trying to find the perfect outfit.

Where should I go?

What should I buy?

What should I wear?

Ok so I’ve decided not to give Dwayne the name of the guy from the Super Bowl Party and he has reluctantly decided to respect my wishes.

No more discussion is necessary.

The guy however, keeps blowing up my phone and Whatsapp but I keep ignoring him.

I’m just saying…

Aint nobody got time for dat

So mint condition is coming up and I really want to go.

I’ve been trying to decide what I’m going to get Dwayne for Valentines Day, as well as hint to him what I want.

Every time he comes to my house I’m playing a Mint Condition CD on the stereo or I’m singing Pretty Brown Eyes hoping he’d catch the hint.

Even though he does have pretty brown eyes, I hope he don’t think I’m talking about him…lol

But…I don’t know…. It is Valentine’s Day and I haven’t heard from him yet so I’ll just wait to see what’s in store.

Also, I was wondering what to get him. I still have a few hours before I’ll see him so does anyone have any suggestions of what to get for the very first valentines?

I mean first of all, a Valentines gift can be very tricky. If you get too much it could scare him. Men tend to be very squeamish and skittish even when it comes to anything involving the “L” word.

The funny thing is if it involves getting naked later tonight, they’re gong ho! Just don’t get mushy cause they’ll run the other way.

SMH!

On the flip side, you still want to get him a gift telling him how you feel about him. After a few years V-day gifts get easier because you know the person better but in the beginning, while you are still working things out, it could be a little tricky.

But at the end of the day it’s usually about the man wooing the lady. I mean most guys don’t care about flowers, cards and candy anyway (well they don’t’ care about flowers and cards anyway).

So if it’s all about me, I want what I want. So I would like to hear from you all about ideas how to subtly hint that I want to go to Mint Condition for Valentines.

02/10/2013 - Bermuda Latin Vibes - Makin Moves

You ever wonder if things would have ended differently had they named the ship “Humble” or the “Let’s Not Get Ahead of Ourselves”? Would the Titanic have lasted longer than one maiden voyage (or, I guess half of one)? The Vice-President of the White Star Line is quoted as stating, “We place absolute confidence in the Titanic. We believe that the boat is unsinkable,” even as word began to reach America of the disaster. And then it sank.

Bermuda Latin Vibes has been living by the mantra “from small beginnings…”, though we have some pretty lofty goals in mind. See, we’ve never attempted this before; providing a portal for all the different segments of what we consider Latin culture and being a one-stop resource for dance, music, cuisine, linguists, tailors, cobblers and aviators (I may have made a few of those up just now, but you follow my meaning). And we soooooooooo want to have it right the first time!

Thus, our monthly socials, our Facebook page, and our website have been our only public faces so far. But there has been a trailer-load of activity behind the scenes, networking and laying the groundwork for the future version of BLV, and we’re excited by the progress we see.

But we’ll keep holding our cards close to our chest for a minute. After all, we are aiming to stick around a tad longer than the Titanic.

P.S. Shout out to everyone that swung by last Thursday’s belated New Year’s social! We had a blast hosting, and it sure looked like you had a blast too! ‘Twas awesome to see so many new faces; hope they become regular faces so I can take them for granted soon. I kid, I kid!

02/08/2013 - Hello World, My Name is ISIS - TO TELL OR NOT TO TELL, THAT IS THE QUESTION

Hi guys, Sorry I’m late this week…haven’t forgotten you all. I was just dealing with life. Anyway, my blog writing situation with Dwayne still continues. I did speak with him based on my own consideration coupled with the advice you all have given.

This is MY blog, and I appreciate the outlet it gives me, so I will continue to write. Also there are future projects in store for Hello World, My Name is Isis. I will not let anyone stop my vision.

I have, however, come up with a compromise of refraining from extensively including Dwayne in the blog. Because my writings are mostly about my relationship journey, it’s inevitable he will still be a big part of it. I will now just run the content by him before I post.

So we’ll see how that goes.

So Valentines is coming up and coincidently I ran into an old flame at a Superbowl party last Sunday who tried to “pick –up where he left off.”

He was talking about: “It’s great to see you Isis, you still look good!” (Keeping in mind this was a chance run in…not like any of us planned to run into one another)

He came over to me, gave me a hug then proceeded to tell me how he misses me and thinks about me all the time.

I promptly thwarted his comments by explaining to him that my number, email address and home address had not changed and if he was interested in or thinking about me, he would have utilized those resources.

Of course he says:”Baby, I got a new phone and lost all my contacts, and I didn’t want to just come to your house cause I didn’t know if you had a man or not”

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?

Men and the bull sh*t never stops.

I told him, as a matter of fact, yes, I was seeing someone…of course he was like: “Where’s ya man now? Why he ain’t here with you?”

I didn’t feel the need to explain to him that it was a girls’ night because I didn’t think it warranted an explanation. I told him I was no longer available and that should have been it.

But of course it wouldn’t be an Isis experience if it isn’t drama filled.

He asked me if he could talk to me outside in private because he really wanted to explain himself. (Unbeknownst to me the reason was because his current girlfriend was at the party too).

I agreed, mainly out of curiosity. So we went outside, and around the corner, out of sight from the party crowd, and he started to tell me how he is still in love with me and never wanted to let me go. He also tried to explain that the reason he started to treat me bad and ignored my calls was because he got really scared and was afraid of commitment.

He said: “I understand you have your little relationship thing going on and I ain’t trying to knock it but, Isis, I love you and want to be with you and I’m not sure if I can sit idly and watch another man touch you.”

WTF!?!?!?!?

I looked at him like a confused dog, with my head cocked to the side: “I don’t understand why you chose now to effing approach me about this. Last year, actually around Valentines, you just walked out of my life without explanation. I tried contacting you without success. I then find out you went back to your ex…probably running these same lines on her as you’re telling me. And you want me to forgive you? And over a chance encounter like this? Have you lost your effing mind??

Well I thought by me chewing him out; he would have gotten the message. Ahh No… This dude grips my arms pulls me close and tries to kiss me!!!!!!!!

Of course I was in shock so there was a slight delay. But the effed up part was, just as he kissed me and before I could pull away someone walks around the corner. A girl, his girl, His ex!!! Or current!! Hell, I don’t know what she is.

He saw her then pulled away from me then left us both standing there as he jumped in his car and drove away.

MAN I WAS LIKE: “WHAT ELSE CAN GO WRONG??”

I tried to explain to her what happened but she wasn’t having it. I was prepared for a nasty confrontation but surprisingly, she just walked away and went back inside.

At that point, I wrote her a note explaining the truth handed it to her then left.

Well he tried to call me after that (ahhh conveniently remembering my number now) Explaining a apologizing for what happened. I told him to go work things out with his girlfriend and leave me alone.

He is trying to explain to me that things are not working out with her and that he has been trying to leave her for the last few weeks. (ahhh the likely story)

So yes, I told Dwayne what happened without revealing the identity of the man from my past.

Dwayne, who is understandably pissed, is demanding I tell him who the dude is. I’m trying to explain to him that it doesn’t matter, because I don’t want him, and I don’t want to start any trouble.

As you know that is not flying over well. So what do you think should I tell Dwayne who the guy is or not?

02/07/2013 - BERMUDA'S TOP 5 RESTAURANTS - AMY WOLFINGER

I have more like 20 favorite restaurants in Bermuda, but pairing down the list to just 5 is easy for me if I break it up into categories! Here are my Top 5 Bermuda restaurants, in the categories of fine dining, take out, sushi, Italian, & pub grub:

My favorite fancy restaurant is Ascots. The food is always inventive and delicious, the service is attentive but not over the top, and the wine list offers something in every price range. I love going a bit early before my reservation and enjoying a cocktail in the lounge where they give out the best bar snacks in Bermuda!

In Bermuda you can get sushi from more than a dozen restaurants and it’s all pretty good. But, my favorite sushi bar, Pearl, is the most inventive and has the best location, especially in the summer months on the patio overlooking the Harbour. They’ll even let you order the sushi from Port O Call, in the event you are dining with friends squeamish about raw fish!

My favorite take out, and probably the majority of people in Bermuda would agree, is House of India. Their food is consistently good, the portions always allow for a late night snack, and the staff is willing to alter the menu to fit your tastes. They love it when you ask them for “Indian Hot”!

There is no shortage of Italian food in Bermuda and you can’t go wrong with all the Italian choices in Hamilton. But, my absolute favorite Italian food is out of town, in Flatts Village, at Rustico. I love dining al fresco in their tented patio and I love their food even more. The Rustico special pizza is to die for!

Sometimes you just want to stay in your jeans (or sweats), chill out, and eat some good pub food. My favorite place to do that is Robin Hood. They make the best “chili, chips, & cheese” in Bermuda as well as curries, burgers, and the cheesiest lasagna I’ve ever tasted!

There ya have it! Ascots, HOI, Pearl, Rustico, & Robin Hood! I get hungry just typing those names :)

BNO will ask a local celebrity in the community to name their top 5 favourite restaurants in Bermuda with a brief explanation why they chose those restaurants. This week we have Kristin White. Dueane Dill and Kristin White have been married for almost 3 years. They are co-owners of a bookstore in St. George’s, and co-pilots in life’s adventure (as per the inscription on Dueane’s wedding ring!). They enjoy traveling and have been to Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico, Barbados, Nicaragua and Pittsburgh… among other places. They also value drinking and membership to the wine of the month club has drastically improved their marriage. They have four children, but none of them live in the house full-time, thus the access to liquor. Here is Kristin's top 5:

Wahoo’s - Umm, smoked wahoo pate! Yes, we said it, smoked wahoo pate. And also, have you ever had fish ribs? No? Oh… sucks to be you. And cry us a river regarding it being ‘so far away’… seriously, Bermuda is only yea big!

Blackbeards - Arg. Yes we love pirates (don’t get in our business). But we also love tuna tartar, lobster, and a sunset view that causes everyone to applause. Yes, that really happened. Closed for the winter season but get yourself ready to travel east after daylight savings time.

Port O Call - Gorgeous wine list + gorgeous lamb + some sort of seasoned butter for the bread. We don’t ask for much. But even if we did, we’re pretty sure Port O Call would have it. Save your pennies and head over there now. No seriously… do it now.

Pickled Onion - De drinks alone are enough to make it a regular spot, but then throw in solid good eats and basically it’s an all around all-hit/no-miss restaurant. Great for lunch or a random weekday meal or a long drunken meal on a pre-dieting stretch that ends in dancing as the DJ spins Gangnam Style on a Sunday Night. For example.

Jasmine Lounge - Do I really have to explain? Fireplace, drinks, entertainment, sliders, pizza, couches… When we go there it’s awesome dipped in yay wrapped in giddy up. Special occasions or Tuesdays, Jasmine serves well food late which is a huge plus on de rock.

It’s been a few years since I have been in a relationship so I’m a bit rusty on what is and isn’t appropriate. However, I think I remember the rule of compromising.

I mean, in order to make your situation work out, sometimes you have to give up stuff, meet each other half way. But, one other thing I remember is that one’s level of compromising should never consist of one losing sight of who they are.

Dwayne and I have been doing good he is everything I have been asking, wishing, hoping and praying for. I couldn’t have asked for a better man. And on top of all of that he is really easy on the eyes. I mean I would be a fool to complain. Or would I?

As you all may remember, Dwayne met me on New Year’s Eve at Margarita’s Grill. He approached me and informed me he knew all about me and had read my blogs and wanted to prove to me not all men are scum.

He wanted to prove that he was different. However, the point of my previous statement was that he told me he “followed my blog”.

Now all of a sudden he has a big problem with me even writing the blogs. As you all should have figured out by now, due to the size of the Island and the way word travels, my name is not really Isis. It is an alias. My situations however, are very true and really real.

I have not embellished my unfortunate circumstances by any means. The reason why I have chosen to write these blogs is at the behest of my close friends. They all tell me that my experiences are so out there that I should write a book and or a movie or sitcom script because my life is extremely entertaining and no one would ever believe me anyway.

My friend’s names are real but Isis is actually my middle name. (A hint to those who may know me). Having said that, the name Dwayne Moore is also a made up name, though he really does exist.

Anyway, we had our first argument…er em disagreement last night. He said he doesn’t appreciate me putting his business out there like that and questioned why I even continue with the blogs.

I was like: “Dwayne, you remind me of the dude that meets the girl in the strip club on the pole then demands she stops stripping now that they’re a couple. I mean that’s your classic ‘trying to turn a hoe into a housewife’ scenario.

“I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, trying to label myself a whore but if you met me writing the blog, why should I compromise who I am for you?”

What’s de eff is up with that??

I mean no one knows his true identity, and I actually see this as working in his favor. After all, men always want to get into women’s heads and figure out what we’re thinking, how we really feel about them, what we really want. This is a great way to do it. He can get the inside scoop on if he’s doing a good job and advice on what steps to take next based on my blog reader’s comments and emails.

Unfortunately, he’s not feeling that advantage. He said there is no reason the rest of the world should be commenting on our relationship (oh did I confirm to you all that he is now my man!!! WHOO HOO??).

He maintains he is a private person and doesn’t like people in his business, even though no one knows our identity.

I’m kinda confused…stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Now I definitely need you all’s help. Should I stop writing the blogs or do I continue to live out loud?

In entertainment news, Chris Brown and Frank Ocean was scrapping it out in a Los Angeles recording studio last night.

Apparently these two have been at odds ever since Chris Brown tweeted that he thought Frank Ocean reminded him of a young James Fauntleroy or Kevin Cossum. Frank Ocean responded to that comment by stating that Chris Brown reminded him of a young Sisqo (Dru Hill lead singer) or Ike Turner (Tina Turner's ex-husband).

01/22/2013 - Hello World, My Name is Isis - I'm So Flattered

Wow this blog is becoming popular, I didn’t dream I would get as much attention as I have been getting. I have just been using this space to vent, put my thoughts to the public in hopes that one or two stragglers would give me hope that I still have a chance at true happiness.

However, the outstanding response I’ve been getting from the community is encouraging and to the guys that have shown interest, I’m flattered.

On Friday I received a call from my girlfriend Tauria, who told me she and her friend went out to celebrate her friend’s birthday at Spring Garden’s Karaoke Night. She told me she was approached by a friend who asked her if she knew who Isis was (as she pushes my blog on her social networking sites). She told him yes, he told her he was eager to meet me.

She told me he is attractive and a really nice guy. Well as you can guess, I’m really flattered. There have been a few guys similar to the Karaoke dude, who have been interested in meeting me and here I thought all guys would see me as a loser once I told my disaster stories.

I was in Market Place the other day and I heard some women talking on the checkout line about the “Isis blog”. I silently listened as they related my stories to their own. But what struck me, was to know that I am not alone in my situation. And surprisingly, there was this one dude who was with them who also said he would love to meet “Isis” and show her how a real man treats a woman.

With the attention that my blog is getting, it kinda sorta solidifies to me that online dating may just work. I did try it a few times in the past, but struck out each time so I’ve kinda left that behind. Not just that, but I’m tired of sifting through losers to find a winner and online dating just prolongs that process. However, this blog is assuring me that there’s hope for online dating yet.

So if this situation that I’m in with Dwayne doesn’t work out then maybe I may try it again.

But to all of you men out there (like as if there are millions) who have shown interested in me. I am extremely flattered. I would love for you all to not be so shy though, and actually comment under the blog or on our social networking sites so I can be encouraged more.

At this time however, I am still getting to know Dwayne and so far it’s been wonderful. He really seems like a dream come true. He sends me flowers at work for no reason at all, we go out to eat to dinner and lunch on a daily basis, and my friends love him to death.

However, I’m not going to live in a fantasy world and ignore things that seem a bit off but I I’m still hopeful.

Though I’m happy with how things are going, Dwayne and I are not official yet so what do you all think about me dating around??

Should I broaden my horizons and go on platonic dates with other men or should I just work on the thing between me and Dwayne and remain exclusive to him???

Who Died and Made You DJ, Anyway?

I’ve always had music around me. I know I’m not the only one that grew up with FM 89 playing somewhere in the house, such that I consequently know the lyrics to songs I’ve never even come close to owning on my iPod. Yeah, here’s a line that will play in your head for the rest of the day: “It’s gonna take a lot to take me away from you/There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do”. You’re welcome.

Another consequence: I’ve always been open to giving a new genre a chance. Again, it may never end up on my iPod, but I can appreciate something new if I find it musical. My first year as a salsero, I did as most new dancers do, buying a couple albums of salsa hits, asking the DJ the name of the current song, slowly recognizing songs from one social to the next.

And then two events changed it all for me.

The first came during a social at Vasco da Gama Club (shout outs!). Jamelle Ming had probably coerced some of his students from the College to attend, so when they arrived, he went to dance with them, leaving the DJ equipment abandoned! As the current song wound down, I nervously watched the remaining time tick away, and figured SOMEONE had better cue up the next track.

Point of clarification, this isn’t a story about the discovery of my latent music-mixing super powers; I’m no deejaying prodigy. Anyone remember Scandals Nightclub (shout outs!)? A friend, who was like family, was one of the DJs there and I used to hang out in the booth with him and play a little once in a while. I’m saying that the role was familiar to me, so when I saw the chance to help out and let Jamelle enjoy dancing, I just kinda slipped into place.

Fortunately, Kym Paynter was on hand to play selector, so the song selection wasn’t too shabby.

Which leads to the second event: Jamelle brought DJ El Tiguere in to run a couple workshops soon after that fateful social. I wasn’t initially an attendee, in fact I didn’t even know it was happening until the day before, but figured “Why not? Maybe I’ll learn something new?”

Understatement.

Have you ever been in a class and had the instructor break down a concept so concisely that he/she taught you to approach it from a whole new perspective, and that would be your foundation for the rest of time? No? Yeah, education these days can be really hit or miss. And with our society’s growing reliance on technology, we’re fast approaching the zenith of either taking the reins and really owning this new world or just handing over control to the robots who’ll shush and lull us to sleep while promising to make all the hard decisions and don’t worry, it won’t hurt a bit.

But I digress…

Rudi opened my eyes and my ears. Learning the terms “mambo”, “dura”, “classica”. Hearing a little of the history of Bachata. Music appreciation went sky high. Now it wasn’t just the dance. Or the coolest scene on the island. Now I was thirsty for quality musica. And ready to share it with everyone.

Which ties in with one of the goals of this new movement. Let’s introduce more people to salsa and bachata and cha cha and merengue and reggaeton. Let’s make more people excited about the Latin culture. Let’s fill their ears with good music, and keep raising the bar so their experience continues to improve with every dance, with every song, with every social.

I really really like this dude. And I really really want to be with him. He is like my dream come true. Everything I could’ve asked for has come to me in a neatly wrapped man package and I’m loving it.

Just when I thought all hope was lost. Just when I thought I was going to be old in an old spinster in a rocking chair with a bunch of cats, Dwayne Moore came and turned my life around.

Since our movie date, we have been on four subsequent dates, basically we’ve been out every night this week. Last Friday Django, Saturday night we went to Port-o-Call then a romantic walk on Front Street, Sunday we went to Chewsticks and last night dinner at Red. When we’re not painting the town red, we’re either in each other’s company on the couch or talking on the phone for hours.

The connection between us is bananas!! We talk about everything…it’s like he’s the male version of me…we have so much in common. And whenever we kiss it’s like electric currents running through my body. I think that Cher song is on point: “If you wanna know, if he loves you so it’s in his kiss” (well I think it was Cher, but I could be wrong…lol)

One thing I really love about him, is that not only does he listen to everything I say and takes it to heart, but he’s a take charge man.

We went out to that new restaurant Red last night and when we got there Dwayne told me he took the liberty of pre ordering our meal.

With my admission to my love of seafood, he ordered me the Shellfish Platter as an appetizer, Grilled Lobster for dinner and a chocolate fudge brownie with chocolate sauce for dessert.

Though the meal was absolutely perfect, I was between minds at his actions. I can’t quite explain it other than to say, I was a little taken aback, but equally impressed that Dwayne took charge and ordered our meals.

I was impressed because I’ve never had a guy take charge like that and actually pay attention to what I say in previous conversations, then show that he was paying attention by his actions at the restaurant in ordering for me. That’s a turn on, and stuff you only read about in books or see played out in romantic movies like ‘The Notebook’. and movies like that. Could this really be my romantic novella??

However, the logical side of me finds it a little creepy and it kinda freaked me out a little because it could be looked at as overbearing and controlling.

I’ve also read in books and seen in the movies about the crazy deranged stalker dude who, in the beginning seems like the perfect man you could find. He does everything you want him to do.

Is everything you want him to be. The kinda guy you can take home to momma. Plus he’s fine as hell!!

Then just as you start getting comfortable, just as you start falling in love, the coo coo in him starts to surface like the movie ‘Enough’.

At first you see him as being in control, take charge, sexy as hell. Then he turns around and slaps the sh*t out of you when you don’t do as he says. Yup, I’ve seen those ones too, so I’m at a cross roads with Dwayne.

I don’t want to turn him off and seem like psycho when I don’t allow him to be a man but at the same time I don’t want to ignore the red flags either.

At this point in time, it’s been a long time since I’ve had any real genuine male attention so I’m going to see where this goes.

Other than that pink (and I uses pink cause I’m not convinced it’s red yet) flag, our connection is great.

I really enjoy all the feedback I get from you guys and I really really want hear your thoughts and opinions. Let us take this journey together.

01/10/2013 - Hello World, My Name is Isis - So Far, So Good

I see trees of Green, Red roses too. I see them bloom for me and for you. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world…I swear Louis Armstrong was thinking of how I’m feeling at this exact moment when he sung that song.

And what am I thinking right now? WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD!!

Yes, all things are right in my world right now. I am really feeling good. The date was wonderful, Dwayne was wonderful, I’m wonderful…it’s a wonderful world.

He picked me up promptly at 6:30 pm from my house. He was wearing a nice pair of Gaastra cargo pants stylishly tucked into a pair of Gaastra brown lace-up boots and nice fitted grey cable knit pullover and an oversized scarf draped around his neck as a fashion statement. My type of guy. I know the love gods are smiling down on me right now.

And to add the proverbial cherry to the top of my proverbial pie, when Mr. Moore arrived at my house, he very “gentlemanly” knocked on my door (no text message to say he’s outside, no honking his horn to alert the neighborhood he was there, no phone call to tell me meet him at the corner…but actually parked his silver Mercedes coop, got out and knocked on my door) and greeted me with a nice hug and a kiss on my cheek. I was blushing hard.

We had a nice long, slow and informative drive to Dockyard, where we got to know each other better. I found out that he is 39 years old, divorced and has no children.

Dwayne informed me, he got married to his college sweetheart, who was also his first love. Despite family and friends telling them both they were too young and inexperienced they jumped the broom anyway. Needless to say, the marriage lasted only 18 months and was a lesson very well learned. He said he’s had a few long term relationships since then but has never found his queen. Yes, I know too good to be true, but hey, this is my journey and I’m turning the corners as they come.

I also found out that Dwayne owned his own marketing and advertising company where he services both Bermuda and the United States. Therefore, he travels a lot, further hindering him settling down.

Fortunately, he has currently taken on a business partner in the States to alleviate some of the travelling, allowing him to settle more on Island.

Anyway, we reached Dockyard a little early, so we decided to go to Frog and Onion for a drink before the movie started.

The movie was excellent, I recommend you all go and see Django soon as it would have you leaving the cinema with a new found appreciation of how far society has come, how much more we all need to grow and being as it’s a love story as well it just solidified the date making it all the more perfect.

Guys, I really like Dwayne. The movie was great, we had dinner after then he took me home and we exchanged a long romantic kiss.

I look forward to many more dates with Dwayne.

But I’m still nervous that he is too good to be true, what do you think?

Happy New Year to you all!!! I am sooo excited because the inevitable finally happened!!

I met a guy…a real live boy!! No tricks, bells or whistles!! No offensive wack text messages!! No baggy pant wearing, cross color wearing, fancy dancy saying Buster!! But a nice decent guy with plenty to offer. And guess what?? He’s even cute!

Ok let me calm down and start from the beginning.

I was at a New Year’s Eve party at Margarita’s Grill chilling with my ace girls Keisha and Denise. The night was pretty standard. Like any other New Year’s Eve for the past five years. LAME!!

DJ D’ General and DJ Aztec were playing some nice vibes…I was in my happy place (well as happy as I can be for a single girl looking for love). But the vibe was chill and I was going with the flow.

D’ General then takes the mic and announces: “Ok, you all have about 40 seconds left of 2012. So grab a drink in your hand and grab that special person and get ready to count down. Keisha’s husband, who was working the crowd found his way to her and handed her a fresh champagne glass. Denise’s not-so-ex- boyfriend also conveniently found a way to sneak up on her and embrace her from behind, determined to bring in the New Year with his boo. And I, Isis Simmons, as usual was standing to the side all third-wheelish trying to play off the depression.

About 30 seconds later D’s General s began. “Here we go 10…9… (That sinking eerie feeling started in me again, and it was not good)…8 …7… (Man if they get to one and everyone starts kissing I’m going to scream)…6…5… (I began scanning the club looking for a potential single dude to focus on)…4…3… (That’s it…next year I’m staying home)…2…1 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!”

The DJ then started playing “Auld Lang Syne” and all the couples in the room, including my crew engaged in the traditional long New Year’s kiss.

I took a long sip of my champagne and didn’t come up for air until my glass was empty, then reached over and grabbed another, repeating the libation consumption exercise.

To avoid the embarrassment, of seemingly being the only single person in the room, I headed to the lower bar to order a new drink and drown my sorrows in a Dirty Martini.

The bartender , who happened to be a friend of mine was cheesing big when he saw me and I was about to reach over the bar to give him a huge hug, when I accidentally knocked over the man’s drink who was sitting at the stool next to me.

“OMG, I am so sorry,” I apologized: “Let me buy you another.”

He was like: “No, that’s O.K. In fact let me buy your drink for you, I feel honored to have been so lucky to actually have you spill my drink. Happy New Year Beautiful”

“Excuse me?” I was confused.

“I know you…I’ve been checking you out for a few weeks now…and waiting for the opportunity to talk to you, or at least prove a point to you,” he said.

I was like: “What?”

He said: “Yes Ms. Simmons, I think you are very attractive and you have a lot going for you. I was just wondering why you are having so much trouble finding a man. I would have thought men would have been beating down your door vying for the chance to snatch you up.”

“What the heck is this dude talking about?”

“Excuse me, do we know each other?” I was getting a little scared and embarrassed.

“My bad, allow me to introduce myself, I am not a stalker. My name is Dwayne Moore. And we have met before, at Cup Match a few years ago, but obviously I didn’t leave a memorable impression…but then again this is Bermuda…so.”

I shot back: “I have never seen you before in my life. I think I would have remembered you.”

Ladies this dude was FOOOIIINNNNEEE!! He was about 6’0” muscular build, brown skin with a nice clean close cut, a goatee, light brown eyes, and sexy lips and his voice was like verbal velvet.

He was dressed in a black suit with a dark grey button up shirt under and a silvery color tie to compliment.

Coming out of my trance I repeated: “Yeah I would have definitely remembered you.”

The first thing I did was look at his left hand for a ring or a tan line from one recently removed.

He was clean…which doesn’t say much in this day and time. So I had to ask: “So where’s your significant other? Wife, Girlfriend?”

He then said to me: “Let me tell you something Ms. Simmons, I am a grown man with integrity. I know what I want and when I see what I want I go after it. No holds barred. As I told you, I have been admiring you for a minute now. I’m actually a fan of your blog: “Hello World My Name is Isis” and look forward to reading it weekly.

“As I said earlier, I’m actually surprised at your difficulty in finding a man. I think men may be intimidated by you or you have just been meeting the wrong ones. But with your permission I would like to have the opportunity to change your mind and to remind you that there are a few good ones out there left.

“Having said that, I’m not about games…I’m serious with my intent, so no, I have neither a wife nor a girlfriend…if I had either, I would have been spending my NYE making her feel as special as she is to me.

“Which leads me to my next question: May I have your number, to get to know you better? I have been dying to see that new movie Django, would you interested in accompanying me to dinner and a movie this weekend?”

“AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHH” I silently screamed to myself in excitement!!

WHO HOO HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ME!!!!

But before I get too excited, I don’t want to ruin this. We are going out this Friday, and it’s been soo long since I’ve been with a real man and I’ve forgotten how to act. So please my friends, can anyone give me any tips or advice??

Holiday Bells, Holiday Blues

Happy holidays guys, thank you for tuning in every week to see what’s new with me and my life. I was excited to read many of your comments on my blogs, my facebook page and your emails encouraging me to hold on and assuring me there’s still hope for my situation.

Thanks I really mean it :). I was also equally amazed to find out that a few of you have been in my similar situation. It helps to know I’m not alone. But for those of you who have been wondering if I’m a real person or not, I want to assure you I definitely am real and the situations that I have described to you really have happened to me. I know it’s hard to believe but my life is really that pathetic.

Now I know it’s Christmas Day so my blog entry will be very short. Nonetheless, I still wanted to share with you today, mainly because my woes do not take off Christmas break :(.

During this yuletide season, people tend to be joyous and giving, families spend a lot of time together cooking and gift giving. Children seem to be drunk with anticipation of what gifts Santa will have for them under the tree on Christmas morn.

All seems to be going well and people have absolutely no reason to be in a bad mood. Well, that is, unless you’re me… Isis Simmons.

The most difficult thing for me during holiday time, is watching couples in love spending time together. It’s not so much that I’m single, it’s just seems like Jolly Ole Saint Nick likes to play cruel jokes on me.

TRUE STORY:

It’s Christmas morning and everyone is gathered around the tree exchanging gifts. The nieces and nephews are all opening their gifts of toys, clothes and electronic devices. The rest of the family is all sitting around watching them play and marvel over their new gifts.

Same for my siblings, they are all opening presents from our gift exchange of cologne, jewelry, clothes, and the latest Macintosh devices. All seems to be going well and going according to our annual routine, when all of a sudden my sister Zinsi’s boy friend Dennis, gets up off the couch…gets down on one knee pulls out a little blue box (Tiffany I presume) and proposes, with the most beautiful solitaire diamond ring known to man.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for my sister and this would have been the most celebratory and romantic occasion if the events that took place immediately after the proposal, didn’t kill the mood.

So after everyone finish celebrating and love was in the air, the attention was immediately turned to my direction.

It was kinda like a metaphorical record got scratched, pausing the party and all eyes were on me.

“Isis, when is your time? When are you going to get married?” That question emanating from the mouth of my arrogant brother Aiden, who by the way, was sitting on the floor between the legs of his gorgeous girlfriend who is six months pregnant.

I cut my eyes at him in disgust for putting me on blast around the damn Christmas tree but the mortification only got worst as the moment went on.

Now my parents, my two sisters Zinsi and Katona, their boyfriends and my brother’s girlfriend were all staring at me. Some stared with looks of disappointment and others with a looks of confusion, but all with the look of pity.

I answered my inquisitive brother: “When it happens, it will happen. But at this moment can we please focus on Si-Si (nickname for my sister) and enjoy her moment…thanks!!

Well, what made me say that?

At that moment my whole family decided to give me a lecture, their bitching and moaning sounding like the Hallelujah Chours: “Isis, you’re getting old you know.”

“Isis, I want some more grandchildren.”

“Aunt Isis, when are you going to give us another little cousin?”

“Isis, Is there not anyone you find worthy to be with, what’s wrong with you?”

“Do you even want to be married?”

“Do you want to settle down?”

“When are you gonna stop partying and take your life serious.”

“Baby girl, do you want me to introduce you to one of my boys? Maybe you two would hit it off”

Man I was getting it from all angles…I was about to explode and then my father asked me a question that just set me off. Put my single life and it’s pathetic-ness right into perspective…he said: “Isis, you know your mother and I love you with all our hearts. You are our second born girl and we would give you the world. We want you to know you are in a safe, nonjudgmental environment and whatever you feel comfortable discussing with us is fine.”

Just as I started to wonder where the conversation is going, he asked me the most humiliating question ever, I almost choked on my eggnog as soon as the words escaped his mouth.

“Isis, baby, are you gay?”

OK, THAT’S IT!!!!!

It’s not that I have a problem with the gays. It’s not that I would be ashamed to admit it if I was, in fact, attracted to the same sex. To each his/her own. I don’t really care.

But why the hell I gotta be GAY?? Ok, just because I’m single, just because it appears that no one wants me. Just because ALL my friends are booed up singing Christmas Carols and sipping hot chocolate around the fireplace and I’m home alone with my Netflix and facebook that means, I’M GAY ARE YOU EFFING SERIOUS?!?!?!

Is my life that pathetic that the only explanation for my situation is homosexuality!! Talk about feeling like a loser….sigh.

Christmas.… adds a whole new level to depression.

Now I know I’m not the only one that has to go through such humiliating situations during the holidays can someone help me out ? Give me some suggestions on how to combat my HOLIDAY BLUES?

You would think after my last blind date hook up from hell, I would have learned my lesson. Well, not by far. It seems I'm a sucker for embarrassment and humiliation.

Let me start from the beginning of my story for you. See after “Mr Feed Em and Eat Em” , I wrinched my bestie Julie for sending me that loser. She apologized profusely but couldn't help laughing when I was showing her the BB Messages.

“Girl, I am so sorry, I didn't know he was like that. In fact I barely know him. I just met him a few weeks ago and he was hitting on me. I told him I was married…He seemed like a cool guy so I thought it would be nice for you to meet him and you lot coulda hung out,” she told me.

“That negro didn't even want to take me out. All he wanted to do was come over my house and screw!” I said: “I’m tired of these tired ass freaks, take me out damnit, WTF is this Island coming to?!!” “Guys don’t even feel the need to work for the girls pants anymore…this is ridiculous!”

After I hung up the phone with my bestie, coincidently, another good friend of mine, Alexis called me.

“Isis, I was just talking to one of Lamont’s (her live-in boyfriend) boys and he saw your pic on Lamont’s phone and was complimenting you. I don’t really know him, but he seems cool,” She sounded excited.

I was like: “Have you met him in person?” She was like: “No, I haven’t actually, Lamont was talking to him on the phone and he’s the one who sent him your pic. I trust my baby though; you know he won’t stare you wrong.”

“Um No, thank you,” I said: “ I'm done with the blind date/ hook up ordeal.” I then told her about my BBM experience and she just LHAO (laughed her ass off). I also heard more laughter in the background and was like: “Who you got there with you? “ and she said: “Oh girl, you know that’s Lamont he said you were silly for letting the conversation go on that long but said you’ll be cool with his hook up.”

“Um Lexie…why the hell are you telling Lamont my business? What you have me on speaker phone or something? Please take me off!!” I was pissed.

“Chill out girl, you know I tell my man everything we are like one!” She defended. “He’s not going to spread your business.”

See that’s the dumb sh*t I have to deal with, with my married and booed up friends. You’re married or are close with your dude…not me!! I don’t want you sharing my person info with your spouses…sort that sh*t out!!

Sigh…but I digress.

Anyway, by the end of the threesome conversation they convinced me to give this guy a chance, the scary part was that Alexis didn't even know what this dude looked like and was basing her trust solely on her man’s word.

So, the next day, dude calls me. For the sake of anonymity let’s just call him “Buster” (ALL PUN INTENDED).

“Hey Isis, How are you? I was looking forward to calling you ever since my boy showed me ya picture,” said Buster.

I then thought to myself: “Ok so far he doesn't seem that bad,” Basing my judgement on my recent experience with Mr. Feed em and Eat em. “ I'm good, is that true? So you like my picture huh?”

“You’re really attractive why don’t you have a man?” He flattered.

I was like: “Just haven’t found the right person yet I guess”

Now our conversation didn't last long at all. He wasn't the best conversationalist, but at he sounded like he had a bit of sense.

He asked if he could meet me in person and I told him that I'm going to the Police Ball at Hamilton Princess this weekend and maybe he could stop by after the ball and meet me in the lobby.

Now keep in mind, I warned him it was the Police Ball, meaning people would be dressed in tuxedos and ball gowns. I informed so he’d dress complementary so he’d at least fit in.

So the weekend comes and I attend the ball with my sister. After the dinner and the presentations, my sister decided to call it a night and left me at the hotel to socialize. So I hooked up with another acegirl Renee, who was there with a date who was a Regiment soldier.

After the ball, Renee, her date and I walked down to the main lobby to sit off on the big comfy chairs awaiting my mystery man to greet us.

About a half an hour later, I was sitting on an armchair facing the door when this thing beyond description bolted in cheesing.

I'm going to do my best to describe the catastrophe heading my way. Ok, so this dude walked in with stonewashed dark brown extra, extra baggy jeans, a Cross Colors shirt (YES, I SAID CROSS COLORS), Black and white jacket with skulls on it, a brown woollen hat with a peak and he had a missing or severely chipped front tooth.

I kid you not when I say, this dude looked like he had been locked up since 1993 and was just released that day. And I am not exaggerating either.

Instantly I knew he was Buster, because he was Bee-lining straight for me with the biggest, cheesiest grin on his face.

Well, Mr. Buster raced over to me with the quickness as if he had just struck gold and took it upon himself to plop himself down in my small seat… Dude was practically sitting on my lap. “Hey Baby you lookin sexy,” He complimented as if we knew each other from way back.

“Hey get up off me!” I yelled embarrassingly as I quickly pushed him away from me before anyone noticed.

Well Renee and her date immediately started cracking up because the whole ordeal was unbelievable hilarious to them.

I, however, didn't find the humour. I was mortified, I mean there were police officers, regiment soldiers, doctors, lawyers etc. all around me dressed in tuxedos and gowns then right here, right in front of me was BOZO THE CLOWN permeating my personal space.

To be honest I was looking around to see if Ashton Kutcher was going to pop out, because I swore at that moment, I was being Punked.

Anyway, Buster then says: “So baby, what you want to drink? I’ll buy you a drink from the bar.” I was like: “No thank you, I'm cool”

But Buster persisted: “ I'm sayin, you want a soda then?” I answered: “No thank you, I'm good” Of course this dude couldn't take no for an answer and asked further: “You want me to get you a glass of water?” I then got louder and said sternly: “I said NO THANK YOU!”

Finally he said: “Well umma go get me a drink” and left the situation.

Well Renee and her date could not stop laughing and were saying to me: “Only you Isis, something like this could only happen to you.”

I said: “Can you believe what just walked in the door? Has Lamont lost his mind??? I’m f**cking done!!!”

The crew couple sitting across from me, that I call my friends continued to laugh their asses off at my expense, when Buster made his way back over to us and this time, appropriately sat in the chair next to me.

THANK GOD!

To get out of the situation, I used an old tactic that always works well for me.

I called Julie and when she answered the phone I hung up. I did this several times, just so she’d get irritated and call me back.

Eventually Julie called back: “Isis, why do you keep calling my phone??!”

I answered: “Oh my God, are you OK?

Julie responded:” huh?”

I answered: “He did? Oh no!!”

Immediately Julie caught on and asked me if I was in a situation that I needed to get out of.

I responded: “Yes, I'm on my way!”

When Buster asked if I was OK, I lied and told him my friend’s boyfriend just beat her up and she is in the Emergency Room so I have to go and I’ll be back.

I immediately hauled ass out of the hotel leaving Buster there with Renee and date.

The next day Renee called me and filled me in on the shenanigans that transpired after I left the scene. She said she asked Buster where he works to which he answered, to surrounding police offers and Regiment officials: “Oh, I chase paper… I chase paper”

Renee’s Bermuda Regiment date then said: “You look familiar” to which Buster replied: “No, No, No um been running from you lot for while”

O_o ARE YOU SERIOUS? WHO SAYS THAT TO SOMEONE FROM THE BERMUDA REGIMENT… EFFING WEIRDO!!

Her date then asked: “No really, what do you do for a living?” Buster then pulled out a business card with the name printed on the card scratched off and replaced by his name written in ink and said: “Here take my business card.”

Renee asked: “Why is the name scratched off?” He said: “Oh these are my father’s card, but um just using them.”

O_o I mean really…Where they do that at?

Renee then told me this dude sat back in the chair, admired his surroundings and said: “My… this is a fancy dancy place! I ain’t never been in this fancy dancy place before!” To which Renee responded: “Um, dude, this is Hamilton Princess. You've never been here before?” He said: “No , never, this is my first time in this fancy dancy place, It’s real nice.”

Renee was like: “Are you serious? You've never been to Happy Hour, stayed here for a night nor never been to a wedding reception?”

Sigh….Well of course not...that would make him normal.

Anyway, Renee then said to Buster: “You know she’s not coming back right?” To which he responded: “Oh ok” and left, but not before finishing his fancy dancy drink in the fancy dancy Hamilton Princess Lobby. O_o

Over the next few days, Mr. Buster blew up my phone trying to contact me, flooded my inbox with messages and sent me numerous BBMs.

Another Fail.

Ingredients:

1.5 oz Coconut Ciroc Vodka

3 oz Pineapple Juice

.25 oz Fresh Lime Juice

Instructions:

I think I first heard French spoken by the parents of my best friend back in my Primary School days. That led me to choosing French over Spanish when I started high school, and I dived in with both feet. Coolest language ever, in my opinion - mostly due to that slick accent. Seriously. If you’re so inclined, watch “The Matrix Reloaded” - there’s a character called “The Merovingian” that gives a spiel on the language. To which I can only add, “What he said.”

Consequently, the only Spanish I know is the stuff I learned watching Sesame Street. I can count to ten and I know the difference between “abierto” and “cerrada”. I also know far too many Sesame Street songs, but that’s a whole other psychiatrist session.

So, you can probably understand my unwillingness to partake of the Latin scene in Bermuda as it birthed and reared itself through the 00’s. Just was not feeling it. Nuh-uh. Not for me. PASS. Talk to someone else about the Tito Puentes and Celia Cruzes and Enrique Iglesiaseseseses. The closest I was coming to that mess was maybe hearing it when I ate at Rosa’s Cantina. Grumblegrumblegetoffamalawn.

Then a good friend took me to a salsa social, and something clicked. Well, more than “something” - this was the equivalent of power washing the roof of your Bermuda home for the first time in five years and seeing the return of that white gleam; the equivalent of finding that pair of jeans that fit you perfectly, taking it to the cashier and THEN learning it’s marked 30% off; the equivalent of sleeping in on a Sunday morning and waking to find that your children not only fed themselves breakfast, but also cleaned up the kitchen after; the equivalent of streaking in Call of Duty and earning the nuclear bomb perk.

What clicked? Simple, I learned that the lead makes it all happen.

Follow me: since I gained a little rhythm and courage enough to dance in public (sigh, I guess at this point, I should thank you, Electric Slide), I’ve pretty much stuck to the R&B bobble or Dancehall grind or Soca… jump? I could go anywhere, club or house party or Harbour Night, and dance and not look two-left-footed. I could dance alone or dance near enough to a girl that at a glance one might think we were dancing together. But here was a dance that required a lead and a follow and was NOT something Ballroom or formal or yawn-inducing! And any two salseros can come together, having never even met before, and make an awesome performance happen! I responded to the challenge - the lead makes it all happen, so dagnabbit, I’m gonna be that lead! Bonus: be a competent enough lead, then the follows will seek you out for a dance. Whatisthismagic?!?

So, I dived in with both feet. For me, it began and remains with the dance; challenging myself to learn moves, to improve my skills as a lead, to let the follows know I won’t drop/abandon/embarass them. I was excited the day I realised I could watch someone else lead and name the moves they performed. I was psyched once I could identify the little nuances that made one dancer smoother or another more musical. I was proud once I saw new leads and could offer advice to help them improve their dance.

Ok one thing about dating in your 20s…the men were in their prime so they were as fine as the finest wine you could find. I mean they were either slim or built. They had all of their hair. They were ambitious and were willing to take you out wherever you chose or wherever the hotspots were for the weekend. You had fun…oh and the sex was out of this world. You were both young and ready to get it on anywhere, anyhow the mood took you. Dating in your 20s was off the hook.

Well speed up a decade later. The men you date have turned into losers. I don’t know what happened! It’s like they all lost their mojo or something…I don’t know what happened but I know I don’t like it.

This new breed of men don’t want to date, all they wanna do is meet you on the streets, or online, invite you over their house, feed you dinner, pop a Blu Ray in the machine then try to sex you before the introduction credits role.

They no longer take you out and if they do the night ends with the obligatory screw. And most us over 30 gals try to appear liberated and go along with the sex when deep down inside we just want to be a committed relationship. We sit back and watch our married friends live out our dreams and secretly loathe them and love them at the same time…..sigh…the life of a single girl in her 30s.

But we can’t be mad at our married friends, they try to empathize with us, bless their hearts, but they just don’t understand. I mean I love/loathe my married friends but at the end of the day they need to learn to stay out of our love lives if they are going to be hooking us up on blind dates with ‘Mr. Feed Em and Eat Em’. SMDH!!

Of course one of my married friends tried to “help out” and that just went lovely. I was stalked by an uneducated and untactful loser until I finally deleted him from my contact list.

My happily married best friend, HATE HER ASS, Julie sent me a BBM three weeks ago reading: “Isis, I have a guy I want you to meet. He is nice looking and I think you’ll like him. Send me a pic of you so I can send it to him.” Excitedly, I sent her a pic of myself which I thought highlighted me in my best light.

It was the famous facebook profile pic of me posing over bed of roses, wearing my favorite peach dress, highlighting my smooth caramel skin. I love that pic, and have gotten hundreds of compliments on it. “Yeah this one should work,” I excitingly said to myself hoping Julie gets it right. So Julie sent the pic then two minutes later returned a picture to me of a semi –chocolate man of average appearance.

“Meeaah…he’s ok,” I thought to myself. “Not bad looking at all” So we exchanged pins and so began my head scratching world wind.

Last night was another realization of how effing pathetic my life really is.

It was New Year’s Eve, a group of us friends decided to go out for dinner to celebrate. At approximately 11:50pm and our clan was at Port-O-Call Restaurant. The hostess was doing a great job in hyping up the crowd. Our table of 11 had just finished our wonderful lobster and Mahi Mahi feasts and were enjoying our last dessert for the year. Five minutes later the wait staff worked their way around the room filling everyone’s glass with ceremonial champagne as the hostess gave everyone instructions on what to do at the stroke of midnight.

The overly bubbly and very provocatively dressed mistress of ceremonies attempted to set the ambiance by announcing: “This is a special occasion for all of us and we’re gonna bring this New Year in in style. So at the end of the countdown I want you all to grab the one you love and give them the biggest, wettest kiss ever! This is the room for love and I wanna see nothing but steam in the air! After you leave here tonight, I predict some babies will be conceived. Are you all ready? He we go! 10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1 HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Now let’s see some tongue!”

“EEERRRGGGHHH…..ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!”

Now as I stated earlier our party consisted of 11 people. 6 female and 5 male so who do you think was the odd one out? Yeah… right… exactly….you guessed it…Hello World, My Name is Isis and my life is effing pathetic!

It’s not that I was the odd one out last night. It’s not that everyone was boo-ed up and had someone to kiss while Auld Lang Syne played in the background. It’s not even that I was totally embarrassed when the moment was over and all sympathetic eyes were staring at me (can you say embarrassing?). Now all of that I can handle but the effed up part is…THIS CRAP HAPPENS ALL THE TIME!! And the mess gets more and more ridiculous each year. My name is Isis Simmons, I’m 35 years old, working at a dead end job and most unfortunately, I’m single. Yes single and on my way to Loserville.

Life wasn’t always like this for me. It seems to be and over 30’s disease, caused by your classic case of “Missed the Boat” syndrome.

Yeah that’s right Missed the Boat. See, as it seems we women, especially black women have a small window to have the fairy tale life…therefore we must ensure we jump on the metaphorical boat of marriage when that window is opened, and if we miss it…well …yeah…we are just S.O.L. (Sh*t out of luck), and will spend the majority of our 30’s having unfulfilling sex, hoping that each meaningless sexual/dating experience leads to something that can possibly turn into finding our soul mate. We hope we would be the exception to the rule and meet the man we will fall hopelessly in love with.

Unfortunately, the majority of us ARE THE RULE and will enter into our 40s accepting that we may never marry and possibly never procreate. Yup unfortunately, this is the New Millennium Curse brought on by a vast lack of testosterone and an overwhelmingly overflowing abundance of estrogen.

But like I said, it wasn’t always like that for me. There was a point in time when I couldn’t keep the men off me…I had dates every night and my biggest dilemma was: what shade of lipstick looked good with my new pair of shoes I bought that day.

Yeesss the glorious 20s…dang those where the best years ever….party, party, party every damn night. You would never find my ass home.

My weekend nights started with a party and ended with a bang! 20s weekends.

Nowadays, my weekends start with Netflix and ends with drool and Martin reruns... 30s weekends.

Every week, BNO will ask a local celebrity in the community to name their top 5 favourite restaurants in Bermuda with a brief explanation why they chose those restaurants. This week we have Nathan Atcheson. Nathan Atcheson is a dj for the popular sound called Supatone. You can usually find Supatone spinning at Cosmopolitan Nightclub or the Cellar Lounge.

Waterlot - As one of the oldest dining establishments in Bermuda, established over 350 years ago, Waterlot carries a well-deserved air of prestige. Made famous as a steak-house, Waterlot is now known as one of the island's finest restaurants. The ambiance is elegant and the food is well prepared. Combined with very attentive and friendly staff, this Bermudian landmark is well deserved of a spot on my list.

Hog Penny - With a plethora of high-cost dining options in Bermuda, it is good to have a few go-to restaurants for when you want a good meal out without breaking the bank. For me, Hog Penny on Burnaby Hill is a great choice. The decor is straight out of London, with all of the fixtures and fittings of a true English pub. Their selection of draft beers fits the atmosphere, with a wide range of brands on tap. The food at Hog Penny is very reasonably priced, the portions are plentiful and the selection of traditional British pub cuisine is the best of its kind on the island. Beyond the food and atmosphere, the after-hours live entertainment, headlined by Will Black, makes it well-worth staying late into the night.

Mickeys Bistro - Some restaurants are known for their food, others become famous for their setting. Mickeys Bistro is Bermuda's only bistro on the beach, offering an unmatched atmosphere. It is the perfect location for a romantic date, or for a fun gathering with friends or family. The food and service parallel the quality of the environment, with a range of well-prepared dishes and professional, friendly staff.

House of India - House of India is a favorite of many in Bermuda, and bears the title of the island's best local Indian cuisine since the days of the Bombey Bicycle Club. Its food is so highly regarded that it is said to compare to the finest Indian restaurants in major foreign cities. Whether you are going for lunch, dinner or take-out, the food and service remain consistently good.

Four Ways Inn - Four Ways Inn has beauty & charm dating back centuries. While it is renowned for its dinner service, it has made my list for its Sunday Brunch. Don't eat any breakfast beforehand, otherwise you will may not be able to make it through the wide range of selections; from seafood to salads, fruit to omelets. Outside you will find a selection of hot foods that could easily be served as a main course in a dinner sitting; fish, ribs, beef, mussels and more. Hopefully you will still have room for more, as your last stop will be the desert station. Four Ways Inn's Sunday Brunch is competitively priced compared to other brunches on the island. Excellent service adds to the experience, and, if you are lucky, you may win a free brunch voucher on their roulette table.

Fiyah Marshall hit us up late last night and confirmed that he has no plans of quitting the music industry. In fact, he just finished a tour in Amsterdam. Here is what he had to say:

It's pretty funny because I just finished my HIgh Times Cannabis Cup Tour in Amsterdam and am now heading to Florida for my radio promotions tour followed by California tour in the new year. Small Business Saturday is an American shopping holiday held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. First celebrated on November 27, 2010, it is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively. By contrast, Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.

In 2010 the holiday was conceived and promoted by American Express via a nationwide radio and television advertising campaign. That year Amex bought advertising inventory on Facebook, which it in turn gave to its small merchant account holders,[1] and also gave rebates to new customers to promote the event.[2][3]

American Express publicized the initiative using social media, advertising, and public relations. At least 41 [1] local politicians and many small business groups in the United States issued proclamations concerning the campaign,[4][5][6] which generated more than one million Facebook "like" registrations and nearly 30,000 tweets under the Twitter hashtags #smallbusinesssaturday (which had existed since early 2010) and #smallbizsaturday.[2]

Cinda Baxter, founder of The 3/50 Project, was national spokesperson for Small Business Saturday its first year. The 3/50 Project encourages consumers to commit to spending $50 of their current monthly budgets with independently owned small businesses they care about.[3]

The Twitter hashtag #SmallBusinessSaturday has existed since early 2010 and was used to promote small businesses on any Saturday (not solely that Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday). The hashtag is used in a manner similar to #FollowFriday to highlight favorite local businesses

Wild Apache and Declan Harris are organizing a huge reggae concert called Veterans In Action. It features reggae legends Pinchers and Admiral Bailey. It also features Bermudian performers – Shorta Ranks, Junior C and others with early warm by Blackstar, OGS Genesis, Jah Life with Jugglin J and Nuclear Weapon with Radigan. This event is going down at the BAA Gymnasium on Sunday, November 11, 2012. Doors open up at 9pm. Tickets for the event are $35 and can be purchased at Dunkley’s Dairy (Vesey Street), Fish N Tings, Kit N Caboodle, all Western Union outlets, all Money Shop outlets, Somers Supermart St Georges and all Jamaican Grill outlets.

BNO: Where did the name Wild Apache come from?

Wild Apache: I got the name growing up in Jamaica. I was called Apache Indian. I just incorporated it into a promotion name.

BNO: When did you get into event planning?

Wild Apache: My first event was alongside MF Promotion in the late 90s. We brought in Stone Love to Number #1 Shed. That was a crazy event.

BNO: You have a huge event with two reggae legends – Pinchers and Admiral Bailey….how did that come about?

Wild Apache: Declan Harris of Tec Promotion (who is the founder of Veterans in Action) ask if I would be interested in doing this event with him. He told me he had Pinchers and Admiral Bailey booked. I was immediately sold. These are two of my favorite artists of the 80s.

BNO: What’s your favorite song from each artist?

Wild Apache: Pinchers "Bandelero" and Admiral Bailey "Old Time Something". These guys have so many hits that it is hard to pick any one. LOL

BNO: What should people expect to experience at this concert?

Wild Apache: Patrons should expect a high energy yet old school vibes. The warmup acts and DJs will be playing some great music from the 80s.

BNO: You have been in the game for a long time. What’s the secret to your success?

Wild Apache: Hard work, careful planning, foresight and the ability to market your event properly

BNO: What advice do you have for someone that is interested in organizing events?

Wild Apache: Prepare for hard work. Be well organized. Have a plan A, B, C and sometimes D.

The following are some low cost restaurant marketing ideas that can help get your guest counts moving in the right direction.

* Crowd Marketing - Sit down and make a list of where crowds gather in your town. When you stop to think about it, the list can become large… Professional Sporting Events, Concerts, Parades, High School Games, Political Rallies, Parks on Sunny Days, Shopping Malls, etc. The front door approach to market to these crowds is to approach the organization that plans the event and become an official sponsor. This often requires an investment of hundreds or thousands of dollars. With limited funds, you’re looking for the back door method to reach these crowds. Put together a street team of employees or hire the local church youth group who are trying to raise funds. Place your marketers on the sidewalks outside the event as it ends. They pass out flyers, brochures, menus, or coupons that will direct the people to come to your restaurant. It’s a personal contact with potential customers, less expensive than official sponsorships, and often far more effective.

* Social Marketing – Tap into the power of the internet with social marketing. Everyone says ‘word of mouth’ marketing is the most powerful kind, and ‘word of mouth’ is now digital. Then they join groups that can number up into a million users. * Bounce Back Coupons – Your current customers are a great target group to try to increase sales. Just give them a reason to come back sooner than they normally would. Maybe it’s a coupon that’s only valid for the next seven days. Or if you are open in multiple dayparts, at dinner you give away a coupon valid for breakfast, and at breakfast give away coupons valid for dinner. Not only can this increase your guest’s frequency, it may open them up to visit you at a whole different daypart than they ever had before.

Cosmopolitan Cocktail #5 recipe 1 1/2 oz Smirnoff® vodka 1 1/2 oz triple sec 1/2 oz cranberry juice 1/2 oz fresh lime juice 1 orange zest Combine the Smirnoff vodka, triple sec, fresh lime juice and cranberry juice in a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes.
